4TH INTERNATIONAL EURASIA FILM FESTIVAL OPENED WITH FERZAN ÖZPETEK'S "A PERFECT DAY"
Continents, cultures and stories met for the 4th time in the Turkish Riviera's "city of lights", Antalya, under the banner of the International Eurasia Film Festival with a ceremony held in the Festival Palace AKM and the Turkey premiere of celebrated director Ferzan Özpetek's latest film "A Perfect Day".
Presented by actress and beauty queen Azra Akın, the ceremony started with the performance delivered by renowned musicians Barbaros Erköse and İlhan Erşahin.
In his key speech the President of the Festival and of TURSAK Foundation Engin Yiğitgil extended gratitude to all supporters, guests and lovers of cinema who joined the passionate journey for cinema under the banner of a festival whose very name indicates the much desired reconciling of continents.
After his speech Mr. Yiğitgil presented the Festival's Honorary Award to composer Zbigniew Preisner, famous for the original scores he composed for Krzysztof Kieslowski's "Three Colors" trilogy and "Dekalog". The presentation of the awards continued with actor Michael York who is celebrating the 44th year in his performing career. Receiving his award from the hands of the Festival's Honorary President and the Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Menderes Türel, York expressed his happiness for the hospitality and the warm atmosphere.
The President of the 4th International Eurasia Film Festival Grand Jury, genius storyteller and master director Paul Verhoeven has been presented the Honorary Award of the Festival by Menderes Türel and Engin Yiğitgil. Saluting the audience in his speech, Verhoeven told he's working on a film set in Turkey and has cruised locations in Antalya and Istanbul.
The night continued with the introduction of the members of the Grand Competition Jury, the NETPAC Jury, the Critics' Award jury and the SIYAD Jury who'll be scrutinizing the festival's award-runners and Critics' Award competitors for 8 days.
Before the launching of the Turkey premiere of the Festival's opening film "A Perfect Day", director Ferzan Özpetek, star of the film Isabella Ferrari and producer Domenico Procacci greeted the audience.
